This week, Management staff attended the first 2023 Goal Setting meeting with Frank Benest at the Taafe House to start organizing the 2023 priorities. 


Los Altos Hills County Fire District Strategic Plan
This week the Los Altos Hills County Fire District invited the Town to participate in updating their 5-year strategic plan. Staff along with several residents of the district attended the meeting. The strategic plan document will help plan the District’s vision and programs planned for the Town in the upcoming years. The in-person meeting took place December 1st at Gardner Bullis Elementary School in the Multi-purpose Room. 

Valley Water’s Anderson Dam Notification Drill
Santa Clara County Valley Water held its annual drill regarding Anderson Dam this week. Valley Water transitioning to the utilization of a mass notification system for initial notification of a dam-related emergency.  Town staff participated in the drill alongside several other jurisdictions in the County.

December 5: Sheriff's Contract Ad Hoc Meeting at 11 am to discuss potential changes to the sheriff's contract and transition Captain Valenzuela into the process in lieu of Captain Urena's transfer.
December 7: Broadband Ad Hoc Meeting at 1 pm to discuss changes to the municipal code to address wireless telecommunication facilities, the progress on the broadband survey, next steps in the Broadband Feasibility Study, and other related items.

Joint Community Volunteer Service Awards Luncheon

The Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Community Volunteer Service Awards held its annual luncheon today recognizing Los Altos Hills volunteers Ann Duwe and Sue Welch. The City Council and staff attended the luncheon to support our wonderful volunteers.

Regional Updates


Midpeninsula Regional Open Space’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

This week staff attended Mid-Pen’s 50th anniversary celebration and Grand Opening. The event was a great opportunity to gather as a community and celebrating what Mid-Pen has accomplished in open space. The celebration took place at Midpen’s new Administrative Office located at 5050 El Camino Real Los Altos, CA 94022. Several of Town’s staff attended the event.

Planning Commission Public Hearings

On December 1, 2022, Planning Commission held a public hearing to review the following four (4) items:

  • 2350 Old Page Mill Road – File #CUP22-0005 – Lands of California Department of Transportation - A request for a 10-year renewal of the Conditional Use Permit for an existing wireless telecommunications facility with no proposed changes to equipment or structures. CUP renewal was granted

  • 27400 Purissima Road – File #CUP22-0001 – Lands of Town of Los Altos Hills- A request for a 10-year renewal of the Conditional Use Permit for an existing wireless telecommunications facility with minor changes to equipment and no proposed changes to the structure. CUP renewal was granted

  • 25788 Bassett Lane – File #SD22-0038– Lands of Nex Capital Development LLC - A request for landscape screening for an approved new residence. Project was approved with conditions

  • 25600 Frampton Court – File #SD22-0060 – Lands of Cheema and Agloria - Site Development Permit for a swimming pool, spa, and equipment adjacent to natural watercourses. Project was approved with conditions.

Town Hall Renovation
Due to the delay of the carpet delivery, the completion date of the renovation project will be delayed by one week.  The new completion date is December 9.

2022 Sanitary Sewer Repair and Replacement Project 

This project will be on the City Council December 15 meeting agenda requesting the approval of the plans and specifications, and the permission to advertise the project.  The scope of the 2022 Sanitary Sewer CIP project includes repair work on 17 sewer segments.

Adobe Creek Sanitary Sewer Study
The survey crew from Freyer & Laureta (F&L) was onsite on November 17 to collect additional survey data of the existing sewer manholes on Moody Road and Rhus Ridge Road.  F&L notified the Town in an email on 11/22/22 that the final report the final report would be provided for the Town’s review during week of December 5.

Festival of Lights Parade

Mayor Tyson rode in the Festival of Lights Parade in Downtown Los Altos on Sunday, November 27 to kickoff the holiday season. The Town also sponsored the Mother Goose float and the Youth Commission volunteered to push the float. If you missed the parade you can catch the event here. 
 
Upcoming Events: 

Barn Lighting
Sunday, December 4 from 2-5 pm at Westwind Community Barn
Banners were installed this week around Town. Spend the afternoon in the fresh air at Westwind Community Barn, sampling cookies and hot cider and/or wine tasting while kids participate in seasonal games, craft tables, face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo. Santa will be available for last minute holiday wish lists and photos. A community countdown to light up the Barn will begin at 5:00 pm.  

Caroling in the Hills 
Tuesday, December 20 from 7:30-9 pm at Town Hall 
Join with your neighbors in bringing fun holiday cheer to the neighborhoods.    Drinks and treats will be provided to warm our voices up before heading out on pathways.  Carolers should wear warm clothes and bring a flashlight.  In case of inclement weather caroling will be held at Town Hall only.  For more information, please contact Scott Vanderlip at 650 793-0475 or email at scott@inet-sciences.com.

Detective Case Update

  • In October of 2021, unknown suspect(s) broke a window to gain entry into and burglarize a residence in Los Altos Hills.
  • Deputies investigating the incident at the time were able to locate and collect potential DNA evidence from the scene.
  • Detectives submitted this evidence for testing, which resulted in the identification of a potential suspect.
  • As a result of further investigation, detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant for this suspect
  • In November of this year, the suspect was arrested and booked into the Main Jail for residential burglary charges related to this case.
