Planning & Building Department
The Planning and Building Department is charged with the administration of policies guiding development and building within the Town and provides the residents of Los Altos Hills with an array of planning and building services.
The Planning Department reviews proposed development for compliance with the Town’s General Plan and Zoning Ordinance and prepares long range planning and policy documents. The Department is also responsible for the updates on the General Plan elements; issues use permits, processes building related applications, CEQA studies, and Environmental Impact Reviews. The Department provides support to the Planning Commission and City Council on development and land use matters, and coordinates with the Pathways, Environmental Design and Protection, and the Open Space Committees in the review of development permit applications.
The Building division reviews architectural and structural plans for compliance with applicable building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and energy codes, and conducts site inspections of buildings under construction to ensure compliance with these codes.

Planning & Building Hours
Planning and Building Department Staff are available Monday through Friday (except Public Holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00.p.m.
Planning Department Drop-In Counter Hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
