Education Committee IconEducation Committee

The membership of this Committee shall consist of seven (7) members including two (2) City Councilmembers who shall be voting members. Members shall be selected so as to ensure, to the extent possible, a representation of school districts serving the Town.  The Committee shall be the “eyes and ears” of the City Council on education issues and promote education opportunities for Los Altos Hills resident children.

The charges to and duties of this Committee are:

  • to monitor school district activities, including but not limited to, attending district board meetings, monitoring press coverage, and being placed on district “interested-party” distribution lists.  Committee members shall be assigned to one of the three school districts serving Los Altos Hills and will be expected to attend approximately one-half of the assigned district’s board meetings;
  • to maintain a census of Los Altos Hills and nearby students (private and pubic), including  district-provided enrollment data and Town-sponsored surveys;
  • to publish an annual Los Altos Hills enrollment summary, including trend presentations and considering neighborhood subdivisions, as appropriate;
  • to promote attendance at Los Altos Hills public schools.  Promotional efforts include the periodic distribution of informative articles through Los Altos Hills publications and the inclusion of bulletins on all district school options in the Los Altos Hills new resident packets;
  • to work with the Los Altos School District (LASD) and Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) Attendance Area committees and or district Property Subcommittees, as Los Altos Hills attendance and/or properties are reevaluated;
  • to make periodic updates to the City Council including both written and oral testimony on relevant actions of the respective districts and to call for action accordingly.  The Education Committee will serve as the early-warning system for items affecting the educational environment in Los Altos Hills.

Meetings are held on an as needed basis in the Council Chambers.
