Community Broadband Resources

The Town of Los Altos Hills is committed to providing its residents with the highest level of resources possible. Among these resources is widely available and affordable broadband internet access. Since 2016 the Town has invested heavily in feasibility studies and a cost sharing program to ensure that residents are able to get access to essential internet access in the most affordable, sustainable, and least environmentally impactful way possible.

What is broadband?

Broadband is another name for high-speed internet access. It is usually defined as service at or exceeding 25 Mbps (megabits per second). It is the most common form of high speed internet available.

What providers are currently available to Los Altos Hills residents?

Currently the main providers for broadband in the Town are Comcast, AT&T, and LAH Community Fiber, a grassroots organization which provides access sperate from a major carrier.

What broadband programs are underway?

The Town is involved in several projects to improve broadband connection within the community. The first is a cost sharing program with Comcast where up to 25% of installation costs will be covered by the town. The second is a feasibility study launched in 2022 and conducted by broadband experts Government Technology Group. This study, a draft of which can be found here. Finally, the Town will be hosting study sessions on this topic where community members can come and share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences with broadband locally. The next study session will be at Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Rd. or online (meeting details below) at 7:00pm on Thursday, August 23rd.
