Aircraft Noise Over Los Altos Hills

In the past six months the Town has received complaints about excessive aircraft noise. Regulation of aircraft noise falls under the jurisdiction of the FAA and the subject of aircraft noise and emissions is addressed at length on their website. The FAA recommends complaining to the local airport where the aircrafts are landing. The Town encourages residents to register their aircraft noise complaints with the SFO Noise Abatement Office at (650) 821-4736, or via email at It is really important for residents to call directly. Complaint volume matters. Because the regulation of aircraft flight patterns is a Federal issue, our Congresswoman Anna Eshoo is leading the fight on aircraft noise for residents of the 18th Congressional District. There is an aircraft noise survey on her website website that residents should take and she provides regular email status updates if you sign up for that. Town staff and City Council members are also helping by staying informed on the issue and representing the Town in regional meetings when they are scheduled. The City Council also adopted a resolution in October urging the Federal Aviation Administration to address increased aircraft noise in Los Altos Hills. Staff is coordinating with the City of Palo Alto staff on a pending technical study. Documents pertaining to aircraft noise
