 Neighborhood Watch Meeting on September 28, 2022

Neighborhood Watch GroupsThis week the Sheriff’s Office attended a Neighborhood Watch Group Meeting along Summerhill Ave. Also in attendance were Town staff, including the City Manager, and two members of Supervisor Simitian’s staff. The meeting served as a great opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office and residents to engage in a Q&A session regarding about recent crime trends in Town. If any resident would like to set up a Neighborhood Watch Group in their area of Town, please reach out to Town Staff Cody Einfalt, to learn more.

 Art Sculpture Construction Work

Art Sculpture Construction Work
Construction has started for the art sculpture that will be installed in the roundabout of the Town Hall driveway. Excavation is schedule to finish by the end of the week, with concrete being poured early next week. The sculpture itself should be delivered sometime next week or shortly after.

Regional Updates
Saturday, October 8 from 2-4 pm at Grant Parks Community Center 1575 Holt Avenue, Los Altos Co-sponsored by the Town of Los Altos Hills, City of Los Altos Recreation Department, Los Altos Hills County Fire District, Santa Clara County Fire Department. A special thank you to Friends of the Los Altos Library for generously funding this event. The GoGoBiblio will be in attendance for book checkouts!
Reach Codes for Elected Officials Silicon Valley Clean Energy and Peninsula Clean Energy held a joint educational webinar on September 9th to inform elected officials and staff about reach codes and their application across industry. The meeting included members of neighboring communities in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Los Altos Community Foundation Kicks off Compassion Week on October 15The vision of Compassion Week is to build a strong, compassionate, and empathetic community by creating service and learning opportunities for volunteers to expand their understanding of local and global needs. There will be a full day of hands-on volunteer projects on Saturday, October 15. Signups are open now.

Housing ElementThere is a Joint City Council and Planning Commission Meeting on Monday, October 3rd, 2022, at 6 pm via Zoom. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the Public Review Draft of the 6th Cycle Housing Plan 2023 – 2031 Housing Element for the Town of Los Altos Hills and obtain City Council direction to submit the Draft Housing Element Update to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) following the completion of the 30-day public comment period and consider and incorporate public comments. Native Plant Garden and Heritage House Orchard Engineering staff met with members of the Environmental Design and Protection Committee to evaluate various design options to harvest stormwater runoff for irrigation and improve site drainage in the Native Plant Garden.
Adobe Creek Sanitary Sewer StudyEngineering has requested Freyer & Laureta, Inc. to expand the scope of the Adobe Creek Sanitary Sewer analysis to include the feasibility study of a sewer bypass on Rhus Ridge Road and Moody Road in the final report. This feasibility study will provide an alternative solution to address capacity deficiencies of the existing sewer mains on Adobe Lane as identified in the 2018 Wastewater Collection System Master Plan. Burglary Prevention Tips:
The Sheriff’s Office wants to pass along a few steps to help keep your home safe from potential burglars: - Lock all windows and doors, especially when away from home
- Activate you home alarm system
- Install motion lights on the exterior of your home
- Ensure home surveillance systems are operational and provide clear video
- Dogs who bark at strangers tend to scare away potential burglars
- Place a hold on mail and newspaper delivery when out of town
- Notify trusted neighbors that you will be away from home and ask them to report suspicious activity
- Complete a patrol check request with the Sheriff’s Office so that we can check on your property while you are on vacation
If you encounter an emergency, please call 9-1-1 for assistance. However, if you would like to report suspicious activity in your neighborhood, or some other event you do not feel is an emergency, or if you are calling from out of the area, please feel free to call the Sheriff’s Office Non-Emergency line at (408) 299-2311.
A call to the Non-Emergency line will be answered by the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch center and routed to the patrol deputies in the same manner as an emergency call, while still opening up 9-1-1 lines for those who need emergency assistance. On Monday, September 26, 2022, a military grade ordinance was found in Los Altos Hills. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office called in the bomb squad and a technician from Travis Air Force Base. The sheriff’s office removed the device and disposed of it in a safe manner (see photo below).
