Committees Expect to Start Meeting in Person
Please be advised that due to the expected end of the State Emergency Order, AB361 is coming to an end, and as a result all Committee meetings will be required to meet in person starting in March and advertised as such.  The community, presenters and staff may continue to be virtual, however all committee members should be in person.  We are actively working on preparing meeting rooms at Town Hall to accommodate these hybrid meetings.

Broadband Ad Hoc Committee Meeting
On Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., the Broadband Ad Hoc Committee met at their newly established reoccurring meeting time of the 4th Thursday of the month to discuss how the Broadband Feasibility Study is progressing. The Town’s Broadband consultant, the Gov Tech Group, walked the attendees through a review of the November 28th progress reports, the most recent findings of the broadband survey, discussed potential changes to the Town’s Wireless Communication Facility Ordinance, and provided an overview of broadband related grants available from the State and Federal government. The first draft of the Broadband Feasibility Study is expected to be complete in late March. A final report will come to the Council later this year.

Evacuation Planning
This week Town staff initiated a meeting with the Town Manager’s Office at Portola Valley to discuss evacuation strategies in the event of a natural disaster. Given the close proximity to one another, Los Altos Hills and Portola Valley reaffirmed their commitment to one another that the two Towns will work together in a larger evacuation to expedite the safe evacuation of both commuities.  A subsequent meeting is being planned between the Santa Clara and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Offices to further discuss this topic.

Sheriff's Weekly Report

Visit the link to view the Sheriff's weekly report for January 9-15, 2023. The Sheriff’s weekly report is always for the week prior to the City Manager’s report.

The Sheriff’s Office and Social Media

At a recent Neighborhood Watch meeting, there were a few questions concerning the Sheriff’s Office and the use of some of the more popular social media platforms.  While the Sheriff’s Office does occasionally send out postings to the community on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and NextDoor, the Sheriff’s Office does not actively monitor any of these sites.  We often hear from people who are wondering why we have not contacted them about the information they have posted on NextDoor or other community sites.  NextDoor is a platform for neighborhoods and community members to interact with each other.   Reports of criminal or suspicious activity solely posted on a social media site will not reach the Sheriff’s Office for any type of investigation or follow-up.

If you want to report criminal or suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s Office, to have us come and investigate, please contact us by phone so we can be immediately dispatched.  If the situation is an emergency, please contact 9-1-1 immediately.  However, if the event does not rise to the level of an emergency, but we still need to be notified, you can call the Sheriff’s Dispatch non-emergency telephone line at (408)-299-2311.  Both of these calls will go to the same dispatch personnel and result in a patrol deputy being notified to respond.
