SANTA CLARA COUNTY REGISTRAR OF VOTERS’ OFFICE STEPS UP CALL FOR ELECTION WORKERSInspector Positions in Demand; North County Currently Light-staffed
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. -- With 32 days remaining until Election Day, the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters’ Office is still searching for Election Officers to serve at 824 polling places throughout the County. Approximately 200 Inspectors are needed, along with 1,500 other officers, including bilingual workers.
“We hope that residents will consider lending a hand in conducting the election and supporting democracy,” said Registrar of Voters Shannon Bushey.
Inspectors oversee the staff of a precinct, assign duties, conduct the pick-up and inventory of election supplies, set up the polling place, and ensure all closing procedures are followed.
Registrar staff said Inspector recruitment is lagging, as are sign-ups in the northern area of the County including the cities of Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View.
Election Officers receive a stipend of up to $200 for volunteering at the polls.
Bilingual workers must be conversant in both English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin, Taiwanese), Tagalog, Korean, Russian, Farsi, Punjabi, Japanese, Hindi, Telugu, Portuguese, Khmer, Syriac, Tamil, Gujarati and Nepali.
Election Officers need to be either citizens 18 years or older who are registered to vote, or legal permanent residents, or high school students 16 years or older with permission from a parent and school principal, along with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Inspectors must be at least 18 years old and citizens who are registered to vote.
Experience is not necessary; all training is provided.
Eligible residents who would like to participate in the democratic process are encouraged to contact the Registrar of Voters’ Office immediately.
