The Town of Los Altos Hills (Town) provides sewer service to over 1,800 residential units in the Town and eight commercial and institutional customers. The Town’s sewer utility is supported primarily by sewer service charges billed to residents connected to the public sewer system on their property tax bill. The current annual cost for a typical single family residential unit is $1,550. Revenue from sewer rates must be adequate to fund sewer utility’s operation and maintenance costs, as-needed obligations, and ongoing capital improvement needs.
The Town is proposing to implement a series of sewer rate increases over the next five years to keep revenues aligned with long-term funding needs for operations, maintenance, capital improvements, treatment plant improvements, and associated work. The proposed rate adjustments are based on analysis by an independent firm and are being phased in to help minimize the annual impact on customers. Proposed rates were developed with input from the Town’s Finance and Investment Committee, a town volunteer group with financial background appointed by the City Council to provide input and advice to the Town on financial and investment matters.
